There is an interesting history to the Cambodia casinos that lie just over the border from neighboring Thailand, in which gambling hall wagering is not legal. Eight gambling halls are based in a generally small location in the city of Poipet in Cambodia. This band of Cambodia gambling dens is in a perfect spot, a three to four hour drive from Bangkok and Macao, the two largest gambling centers in Asia. Cambodia casinos do a thriving business with Thai laborers and guests from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with just a few Westerners. The amazing capital gained from the gambling dens ranges from seven and a half million dollars to over 12.5 million, and there are a couple of controls requirements for gambling den ownership. Ownership is presumed to be mainly Thai; however, financing sources are ambiguous. The borders are ceremoniously open from 9:00 a.m. to 1700, and even though visas are for all intents and purposes required to pass, there are methods around this, as is correct of many borders.
The original Cambodia casinos premiered in Phnom Penh in the mid nineties, but were forced to close in the late nineties, leaving just one casino in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, an anchored ship casino, contains 150 one armed bandits and 60 gaming tables. The Naga river boat is open all hours with 42 tables of mini-punto banco, four tables of vingt-et-un, ten of roulette, 2 of Caribbean Stud Poker, and 1 each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.
The original gambling hall in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, opened in 1999 and the Golden Crown quickly opened. A total of 150 slot machine games and five table games at the Golden Crown and 104 one armed bandits and 68 tables at the Holiday Palace. The newer Holiday Palace Casino and Resort contains 300 one armed bandits and seventy tables and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has one hundred and sixty six one armed bandits and 96 gaming tables, including 87 baccarat banque (the most dominant game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. Additionally, there is the Casino Tropicana, with one hundred and thirty five one armed bandits and sixty six of the normal tables, as well as 1 table of Casino Stud Poker. An additional of the 8 gambling dens in Poipet, also a part of a hotel, is the Princess Casino with 166 slots and ninety seven games. The Star Vegas Casino is is located in an international resort and hotel compound that contains a number of amenities in addition to the gambling den, which contains ten thousand square feet of one hundred and thirty slot machine games and 88 gaming tables.
