There is an interesting story to the Cambodia casinos that sit just across the border from next door Thailand, in which gambling hall wagering is not allowed. Eight gambling dens are anchored in a generally tiny area in the city of Poipet in Cambodia. This collection of Cambodia casinos is in a perfect area, a three to 4 hour trip from Bangkok and Macao, the two most popular gaming centers in Asia. Cambodia casinos do a huge business with Thai workers and visitors from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with only very few Westerners. The astonishing capital gained from the gambling halls ranges from seven and a half million dollars to over 12.5 million, and there are a couple of controls requirements for casino ownership. Ownership is required to be mostly Thai; however, funding sources are vague. The borders are officially open from 0900 to 1700, and even though visas are apparently necessary to pass, there are ways around this, as is real of many border crossings.
The 1st Cambodia gambling halls premiered in Phnom Penh in 1994, but were forced to close in the late nineties, leaving only a single casino in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, an anchored barge gambling hall, contains one hundred and fifty slot machines and sixty tables. The Naga river boat never closes with forty two tables of mini-baccarat, 4 tables of twenty-one, 10 of roulette, two of Caribbean Stud Poker, and 1 each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.
The original casino in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, opened in 1999 and the Golden Crown soon opened. A total of 150 slots and 5 table games at the Golden Crown and one hundred and four slots and 68 tables at the Holiday Palace. The latest Holiday Palace Casino and Resort highlights 300 one armed bandits and 70 tables and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has one hundred and sixty six one armed bandits and ninety six table games, including eighty seven punto banco (the most beloved game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. In addition, there is the Casino Tropicana, with one hundred and thirty five slot machines and 66 of the normal table games, as well as 1 table of Casino Stud Poker. An additional of the eight gambling halls in Poipet, also in a hotel, is the Princess Casino with 166 slot machines and ninety seven games. The Star Vegas Casino is is located in a comprehensive vacation and hotel compound that highlights many conveniences on top of the casino, which has 10,000 square feet of one hundred and thirty slot machine games and eighty eight table games.
